A woman’s mane is their pride; however, natural hair can be quite problematic. There are four main types of hair; types one, two, three and four. The four types are also referred as fine hair, wavy, curly but soft and kinky respectively. Natural hair has these good days when you want to flaunt it but also it has bad days where you just want to put your hat on. There are various challenges that face natural hair growth namely;
This is the main problem that faces natural hair, ends sometimes loop on each other and form some knots at the edges that become really dangerous when combing. It is downright painful and also may lead to hair damage. This happens a lot to long hair and thick hair too. Trying to detangle the hair using blow-dryer can take a lot of time. Hair can also tangle if one does not often comb, so that when you decide to comb hair, it is very tangled already. Dry hair is also a candidate of tangling due to lack of moisture especially after a lot of exposure to the wind.
Everyone has washed their hair and it looked way shorter than it really is at some point. Usually, this happens when hair is washed it can shrink up to seven inches shorter. This is a good sign for the person because it shows that the hair is elastic and elastic hair is healthy. This is an annoying trait of natural hair because you have to straighten it lest it looks untidy and unattractive. No one envies shaggy hair, it is frowned upon.
The need to try out so many hair products
There are so many hair products being advertised on a daily basis with different chemical make-up branded ‘For Natural Hair.’ The problem is that every time one wants to try one something new. This is a problem for people with damaged hair; they are more likely to fall into this trap more than people who have an established regimen already. People with natural hair are always tempted to find new hair products that may make their regimen even a better experience. There are some chemicals such as sulphates and parabens that may be quite harsh to natural hair in the hair products and have components same as those of normal detergents
Shedding is the loosing of hair that has reached the end of its cycle naturally. It sheds with a white bulb at the end; if it does not have the white bulbs then it is not healthy. It reduces the hair length of a natural hair. Shedding increases due to some factors such as genes in the family, and styling methods that place stress on the hair follicle may also increase the rate of shedding. A poor diet that has low amounts of protein can also increase shedding.
Breakage of hair
Natural hair breaks due to the imbalance of some forces in the hair and happens when the hair is unhealthy. Natural hair tends to get weak due to various reasons such as sun exposure, using the wrong hair products such as the aforementioned parabens and sulphates. Hair that breaks more often is the older hair; hair at the ends tends to break faster. Natural hair can break because it is easy to mishandle because it dries easily due to lack of moisture. Rough handling and using a comb with narrow teeth can also cause breakage.
Natural hair gets dry most of the time. Usually, it is recommended that your hair products always have enough water. The norm is that however much water a product has, it always has a drying effect on the hair. Exposure especially in areas that experiences extreme heat temperatures causes dryness. Another reason that can cause natural hair to dry is covering the natural hair with the wrong materials. Some fabrics are drying to the hair for example cotton, so sleeping on a cotton pillowcase may seem cozy but it may be damaging to the natural hair.
Fast hair growth
This may actually look like it is a good thing but not to naturalists. When one has plaited their hair they would want it to last for some time at least a few weeks, before getting bored with it. Natural hair cannot allow this because it grows so fast such that the braided hair will look shaggy within no time so that the braids or cornrows look like they have been on the hair for past two months.
Natural hair needs to be clean all the time. It gains dirt from chemical build-up and needs a clarifier to remove them. Another cause of dirt in hair is dust particles from the hair, there is no way one can avoid dust whether you stay indoors or always outdoors. A normal wash day for natural hair is time-consuming especially if one does not want to manipulate the hair using heat like dryers. It is such a long process from pre-shampooing to styling the hair, one may require staying at home for some few hours for a good result.
Finding a suitable regimen
Different hairs require a different type of care, a person with natural hair may get all the advice from the internet and other credible resources on a good regimen. A good regimen is the one that a person has tried and tested the results before finding a good regimen that supports healthy natural hair.
